About the artist

A leading figure of the Osogbo School, Jimoh Buraimoh emerged from the experimental workshops that shaped one of the most important movements in post-independence Nigerian art. He became particularly known for pioneering bead painting, adapting the ceremonial beadwork of Yoruba crowns, textiles and regalia into a contemporary artistic language. His practice moves across beadwork, painting, printmaking and large-scale mosaic, carrying inherited forms into distinctly modern compositions. Buraimoh's work has travelled well beyond Nigeria: examples are held by the Smithsonian National Museum of African Art, while his mosaics and works have appeared in public and private contexts across Europe and the United States. His place within Osogbo situates him among the artists through whom Nigerian modernism entered an increasingly international art-historical conversation.
