About the artist

Ikechukwu Ezeigwe is a Nigerian contemporary artist known for a distinctive figurative language that combines animal heads with human bodies. Trained in painting at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, his anthropomorphic figures use wit, satire and familiarity to examine human behaviour, relationships and contemporary social and political life. Ezeigwe won the Thought Pyramid Art Centre's Next of Kin competition in 2019 and has since presented solo exhibitions including Beast of No Nation and Monkey Business. His work has also entered the secondary market in Nigeria and internationally, including appearances at Arthouse Contemporary and Olympia Auctions in London. Across his practice, the animal figure becomes a way of looking back at ourselves
